Extended DISC for
Achieving Personal Growth
Many of the clients we have worked with over time, share the common experience of feeling confused. The topic of their confusion ranges from their personality, career, relationships, purpose or just comprehensive development. As part of our coaching process, we administered the Extended DISC assessment to all such clients.
One of our clients, Megha (pseudonym), was in the middle of changing careers. She had worked at her previous organization for more than 10 years. Megha had started feeling stuck and unfulfilled. She wanted to challenge herself and get out of the rut by starting her own pet-food company. Yet, she was apprehensive of taking the big step.
After going through Extended DISC (E-DISC), she identified that her need for High Influence was not met at work. In other words, she derived energy from being outgoing, high-intensity and persuasive. However, her work environment was no longer giving her an opportunity to use these strengths. The work had become repetitive, and she did not feel challenged. She, therefore, wanted to explore new opportunities.
One of the greatest challenges holding her back was having the difficult conversation of moving on with her boss and mentor of 10-years. Megha used the E-DISC assessment to not only understand her communication style, but also to learn how to effectively communicate with her boss, who had a different style. E-DISC helped her deliver the news in a considerate and empathetic way. Megha told us how E-DISC helped her to quit within the timeframe she had set for herself by making her confident through self-awareness. She then went on to use her EDISC profiling data in her own startup business.
While her I type traits were advantageous in certain circumstances, Megha found it difficult to manage her time and often had trouble maintaining focus on tasks for prolonged periods. Using E-DISC she learned strategies for adapting her personality style to be more effective in different situations. For example, she learned to prioritize tasks and to set boundaries with others to protect her time and energy. She used this strategy to her advantage to take the business forward by knowing when to step in and when to ask for help.
As a result of the coaching and the use of the E-DISC tool, Megha was able to improve her time management skills and become more productive for her new venture. She also gained a deeper understanding of her own behaviour and how to manage it effectively, which helped her with her personal development goals.
Another client named Riya, a professional, identifies as an S personality type. In other words, Riya typically exhibits qualities such as calmness, supportiveness, and cooperativeness. While these traits can be beneficial in certain situations, Riya struggled with assertiveness and often had difficulty standing up for herself in group settings. She was having difficulty trying to fathom and communicate with people around her and felt that she needed to change.
As part of the coaching process, Riya gained self-awareness and insight into the way she behaved. She also started recognizing the patterns of how other personality types behaved and how it impacted her. She learned strategies for adapting her communication style to be more effective in different situations. For example, she learned to use "I" statements to express her needs and boundaries, and to practice saying "no" in a respectful and firm manner. She realized that E-DISC helped her accept herself and people around her which in turn improved her relationships.
The E-DISC assessment and coaching process was instrumental in helping Megha and Riya meet their personal development goals and improve their communication skills. It provided them with greater understanding of themselves & others and gave them tools and strategies to be more effective in their personal & professional life.

Extended DISC for
Streamlining Hiring
Mountain High School (pseudonym) is a prestigious educational institution known for combining its modern education system with unique Indian ethos. They have a team of highly qualified teachers, administrators, housemasters, and coaches. This teaching and administrative team shares a living and working space with school students and so are directly responsible for effective management of the school.
Recently, Mountain High School (MHS) has struggled with problems like slow decision-making, low action-oriented approach and attrition in administrative staff. Higher authorities including the principal, Mr. Josh (pseudonym) wanted to challenge the status quo. They decided to start a recruitment drive and hire new members in their administrative team.
After a time-consuming and costly recruitment, they were able to find the “right fit”. At least that is was what they assumed. To their disappointment, the problems persisted, and they saw no change. MHS went on to recruit for the same position again, but unfortunately, they were unable to find a suitable leader for the administrative team and so eventually had to let go of the new hires. Mr. Josh reached out to us to address this issue. After a few initial conversations, we started working with the school to dig deeper and decided to run Extended DISC (E-DISC) for all the members of their team.
We created an E-DISC map to signify each of their positions and walked Mr. Josh and team through it. When they uncovered the underlying reason of all their symptoms, they were utterly astounded. The whole administrative team along with Mr. Josh were spread across two quadrants (C & S) of E-DISC map. Yet, the behaviour traits needed for the job description were easiest for people with a dominant D personality. The team was completely missing the key personality quadrant (D).
The report also revealed an extremely common recruitment issue. Mr. Josh was hiring individuals with traits he respected most rather than the traits that were needed to get the job done. We tailored the Extended DISC job templates to create a thorough job description - outlining duties, required skills, and behavioural characteristics relevant to the administrative position for MHS. We also suggested making Extended DISC a part of the recruitment process to screen shortlisted candidates.
MHS implemented the suggested processes and started their hiring operation one more time. They were able to attract significantly higher number of right candidates with the E-DISC driven job profile after their initial screening. We then conducted the E-DISC profiling on all shortlisted candidates. One candidate, in particular, stood out as a strong fit for the role based on the assessment results. He was a high D. His decision-making and problem-solving skills in different situations aligned with what was required for that position. MHS was impressed by the candidate’s capabilities and decided to offer him the role of administrator at the school.
After starting his new position, the new administrator quickly proved to be an asset to the school. He was able to make difficult decisions with confidence and effectively solved problems that the school was facing. The school also has seen an improvement in morale among the administrative team, as the new administrator has been able to create a positive and supportive work environment.
Overall, the use of Extended DISC has helped MHS improve its recruitment process and find the right fit for the administrative role thereby improving its management in school. All of MHS recruitment now has Extended DISC as a part of their process.

Extended DISC for
Team-Building & Leadership
Soul Creations (pseudonym) is a global retail giant with a strong online presence and a growing network of hundreds of physical stores around the world. The company recently underwent a restructuring in its middle east region due to Covid-19. New teams were formed as a result. One of these new leadership teams was composed of individuals from different ethnicities working from various parts of the world.
Despite its size and success, they were struggling to move quickly and efficiently from ideation to closure on new projects. Ideas were being generated and discussed; however, they were having difficulty making final decisions and implementing them. Their leader, Simon (pseudonym), recognized that the team’s lack of communication and collaboration needed to be addressed to move ideas from conception to implementation more efficiently. Simon reached out to us to help manage this problem within his team. We started with Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and identified that the team needed to use the Extended DISC (E-DISC) tool to get more clarity on themselves and each other. Once everyone had completed the assessment and after a one-on-one conversation with each team member, the results were shared with the entire team. They then participated in team building sessions where they were able to discuss and understand the results of their assessments with one another. The impact of Extended DISC was overwhelmingly positive. Team members were able to gain a greater understanding of their personality traits and how they interacted with others. It helped them understand their own strengths and areas of growth, as well as those of their colleagues. The results were dramatic. With a better understanding of how each team member preferred to communicate and make decisions, the team was able to move from ideation to closure on new projects more efficiently. Decision-making became faster and more agile, and the organization was able to implement new ideas more quickly.
In addition, it became easier for Simon to manage his team. He was able to identify potential conflicts and areas for improvement within the team. For example, it came to his attention that one of his team members, Sara (pseudonym), was considering quitting due to the frustration with the work environment. Using Sara’s E-DISC report Simon was able to relate to the issues Sara was dealing with and understood the environment he needed to provide Sara to retain her and help her grow in the team. Understanding her specific needs pertaining to data for decision making and her need for action post thorough analysis helped Simon create the right environment for Sara.
Using Extended DISC had number of positive impacts in the organization with regards to team-building and leadership. It helped team members understand each other’s communication styles and reactions in different situations, which improved collaboration within the team. This made it easier for team members to work together effectively, which in turn created a more positive and agile work environment. The team was able to bring new products to market faster and stay competitive in their industry. And Sara decided to stay with the organization and contribute to the team’s success.
